I absolutely follow up with students who miss class more than once or twice. But I don’t need pictures of someone’s medical condition. And I would also suggest students would it penalized in the workplace for providing that much detail.

I agree with you. I don't ask or expect my students to share any reasons for absences with me. They do, because their sense of the private/public line is calibrated very differently from mine.
