I was in Northern Ireland last week and I am honestly still quite shaken by the extent of division and trauma that continue to loom very close to the surface. Not a situation to play fast and lose with. And why nationalists would accept a British Bill of Rights instead of the ECHR is anyone‘s guess.
The irresponsibility of Jenrick's behaviour in this matter is criminal.
Torture was abolished by the European Court - the British Courts did nothing
This is why 'Vote Leave' aggressively needed Ireland to leave the EU at the same time. Ulster Unionists have been looking very agitated lately. The last census in the 6-Counties registered a Roman Catholic majority in a place that was NEVER meant to be! 🤔
I have not lived there for a very long time now, but my childhood dream of "none of this will matter once we are all Europeans" was not far away from being realised. It has been much worse again since 2016, strangely enough.
Correct. Correct. And even more correct.
The Conservatives have always handled NI as if they can only see the place through the wrong end of a telescope.
Don't trust Jenrick to produce A Bill of Rights better for us than the ECHR.
Essentially the lesson of brexit, for those who hadn't worked it out already, was that northern ireland isn't a problem they want to understand...
Also the very name of “British Bill of Rights” is hilariously aggravating for Nationalists.
