I think they will allow some percentage of viewers with ad blockers. If they don't view counts will tank.
I disabled my blocker and only see the sponsored ads. I still don't get in-video ads. I watched a 2-hour concert with no interruptions.
Since using their bandwidth without seeing the ads you are just a cost for them, I think you closing the tab is exactly what they want.

It's a win-win-win in their books. In their eyes either they make more money off of ads, make more money off of a new subscription, or they make more money by getting rid of a leach on their server and bandwidth resources.
