By providing short-term *job protected* leave, paid sick leave gives workers the space and flexibility to take short periods of leave when they need to care for themselves and others, which in turn, can improve work force attachment. This is cool!
This matters because workers in low-wage jobs often want more hours but can't get them, either due to employer-side scheduling practices that shut out workers or caregiving responsibilities that make committing to work schedules difficult.
Excited to share a new @upjohninstitute.bsky.social@mslopen.bsky.social on the impact of paid sick leave and hours worked. We looked at one of the oldest city laws, Seattle's PSL law, and found that the policy induced low-wage workers to work 4.4 hours/quarter more than before
