Then we get this: "progressives have done a very good job of purging Republicans from the sectors they dominate, like the media and the academy." There used to be a decent number of Republicans in universities. But how could you be, say, a Republican climate scientist or scholar of public health?
We never purged anyone. I have no idea what my colleagues' political affiliation is, though in some cases I could guess. But Republicans have politicized one academic discipline after another, and cannot really expect to do that and retain the allegiance of actual experts in those fields.

There are plenty of fields a person can serve in without their political beliefs creating conflict of interest, as well as people who put scholarship over partisanship - whatever their beliefs may be.
It is Republicans who are doing the purging. Lately it has been math. Any Republican who believes that 81 million is a larger number than 74 million gets purged from the party for saying so. Just ask Liz Cheney.
