i just want zoomers to know that computers were actually useful once. before the iphone/ipad/android/chromebook, computers ran software that was just like a program that did what it was supposed to do. also the internet used to have a lot of cool stuff on it that didn't give you an anxiety disorder

Webtech has infected and enshittified everything by removing computing QoS. Not everything needs webtech to work, just like not everything benefits from ML, and just (exactly) like everything does NOT need AI injections.

We had a Metaverse but it was called World of Warcraft and it was actually fun to be in.

I remember the days when installing a new game involved selecting your PC's sound and MIDI cards in an MS-DOS menu, rather than downloading it from Steam. Good times. No actual sarcasm. I genuinely miss those days. It was a humbler time.

I tell my younger co-workers about the before times when the search in Microsoft Outlook worked and it blows their minds. They think I'm making this stuff up.

The first computer I worked on was one of only three in the entire state. I broke it.

Holy crap this makes me feel old. I also think the world is now too noisy. I think it's great there's things like twitch where everyone is gaming but now there's waaaay too much content to have access to and it's pretty watered down content. I mean look at youtube. --cont

The web was also more "human". It was easier to google blogs, forums and personal or communitarian websites. We used to find people! We didn't need to type reddit in front of every search. Everything now is burried into businesses and products, and people were all pushed into social media
