I don't really understand why sites use ccTLDs for generic use at all when generic ones are widely available and from my little research, even .com can be cheaper. especially now that no one types domains. i assume it has something to do with regulations or something

from what I've gathered, it's mainly vanity. google and most search engines treat generified ccTLDs as generic ones. and ccTLDs have shorter names (i.e. .ac as opposed to .academy). the problem is that they're still country coded regardless of how generically they're commercialised and treated

because some of those tld's are pretty convenient ! like dot tv for a media company, or dot fm for a radio station, much better suited than 99% if not a 100% of generic vanity tld's you can find, and dot com isn't Always available either, since there can only be one for each site on: earth
