That would probably be true if DOJ and the courts were consistent about protecting voting rights Under Roberts, the court has gutted voter rights protections and when under GOP control, DOJ looks the other way With SCOTUS as it is, these actions are for sure aimed at the shadow docket
Obviously, if they made that argument (different rules for our side than for your side) openly, there would never be agreement for that and they'd never get their precious double standard without a fight The least we can do is call that what it is- deceptive at least
I mean sure, there's a case to argue they aren't being hypocrites if they straightforwardly argue that the rules for me and for thee are deliberately and explicitly different ones because of where we stand in some hierarchy, but they aren't making that argument (or at least, not out loud) yet
We _can_ call it hypocrisy, tho. So long as they're pretending the rules are consistent for both sides in order to keep the other side abiding by rules they have no intention of abiding by themselves, it's a clear double-standard upheld by lying that it isn't one
For that matter I wonder why fraudulent tactics like these are not treated as... well, a criminal matter as opposed to being merely distasteful and shameless.
Ugh, awful. I kind of wish more people could understand that when their tactics to influence your vote are complete lies about the other party, it's an elaborate confession about the way they themselves think about power, how they would use it, and to what ends
I kind of have to wonder how much support the donors actually buy, against how much support it costs the party to do the things the donors demand
Yeah. I'm so, so tired of being told we have to do what the donors want so they can give the party money so it can do things we don't want to vote for but we have to vote for that so we can win ...because that doesn't feel like winning, it feels like being told to mind your betters
The thing that grinds my gears about that list is that virtually none of it is real but they're working hard to convince GOP voters that this unreality ought to be the basis for their voting
One thing I'll never forget about the pandemic era is that when we did things like masking and social distancing (and air-scrubbing/ventilation etc) we also saw remarkable dips in fatalities due to influenza I also went the whole pandemic without catching a cold It's as if doing those things works
