Me when I wake from a nap

Title for silent movie “And now, in his hours off guard, outraged Nature took her hideous revenge -- and out of the black abyss of torment sent upon him the creeping horror that was his other self.”

Just wrote my 5th book review for Rest in Pages in 6 weeks! Getting out of my own way to write is such a relief.

Non-artists: please gently let your well-intentioned niche blogger friends know that generating an AI illustration for their posts is not a harmless novelty. There are so many sources for free, eye-pleasing, not-environmentally-rapacious images. Creative Commons licenses, public domain art history.

as the sun sets on this tiny remote italian mountain village where i have travelled with a group of historians of witchcraft and the inquisition, i realize with shock that it has not occurred to me that im literally in the opening scenes of a horror movie

View from the village of triora over the mist shrouded valley below and houses
Picture of a door with illustrations showing occult symbols, an owl, a path through dark woods etc
More local art in Triora: a door with a picture of witches dancing round a fire and the text Siamo le nipoti di quelle streghe che non siete riusciti a bruciare! (Were the grandchildren of the witches they couldn’t burn)

'The Mansion of the Plates' from the series 'One Hundred Ghost Stories' - Katsushika Hokusai, 1831-32. If you are interested you can read the full tale of Okiku, one of Japan's most famous ghost tales, here: www.curiousordinary.com/2021/08/okik...#FolkloreThursday#ghosts#ukiyoe#JapaneseArt

A ghostly head with long black hair and a trail of plates emerges from a well.

Happy publication day to NORTHERN NIGHTS. I'm busy shipping pre-orders, but do hope you'll grab a copy from us or your favourite vendor. It's very Canadian, yes. Don't let that put you off. That's the selling point. :-) A stacked ToC, and praised by WaPo, PW, Library Journal, Booklist, and more.

Graphic showing book cover for NORTHERN NIGHTS on a starry background, and list of contributors, and 2 blurbs.
