It’s a little surreal at first but what I took away from it is the importance of the past, to the future. Diavolo dreamed of erasing his past and in doing so he earned the ironic punishment of having no future…Bruno’s future was shaped by something in his past…

Jojo is able to assume Diavolo’s legacy as his own because Diavolo had erased his past. The theme is “without your past you are nobody. You should not wish to erase it.”
