IMAGE DESCRIPTION – MIDNIGHT TRUTH TIME. At the top is the strip’s title: “die, dengue fever”. This comic’s art style usually has few colors, being primarily black-and-white in watercolor texture, with more simplified characters and scribbles. Hyamara (caricature of the author; they have short and black hair, piercings in their ears, are wearing a white shirt with a colored strawberry and blue pants), is at the center of the panel. They have an open mouth and closed eyes, and they frown, signaling irritation. Their hands are stiff and straightened out, horizontal, at the front of their face, explaining something. They exclaim: “I fucking,” The word fucking is censored, for social media. Below, after a pause, Hyamara goes on: “hate!!”. The word is on all caps and underlined for emphasis. The background turns black, and Hyamara moves their hands slightly lower. They’re smiling open mouthed, but their eyes are wide and bloodshot, and they also have dark circles under their eyes. Their
brows are arched, signaling exasperation. In the next panel, Hyamara finishes with a scream: “mosquitoes!!”, which is in all caps. The camera goes back, with white zoom lines emphasizing the center of the panel. Hyamara stands, full bodied, while stretching their arms and hands towards the ground, in a very exaggerated gesture. To their right, there is a symbol of prohibition (a red circle with a diagonal line in the middle) and, at its center, the dengue mosquito, aedes aegypti.
Below, there is the introduction of another strip, with the title: “blessed ignorance”. To the left of the panel, over a gray background, some user interfaces float. They reference Twitter, or X. Inside one of them, is a list of scribbled (and unintelligible) words in blue hashtags (a symbol with two vertical lines and two horizontal lines crossing; this function in social media joins content of a same topic under a word - a hashtag). Below this, there is a small blue bird icon lying down with legs raised, as if dead (in a comical way). The blue bird is a reference to Twitter, or X’s former logo. Hyamara is to the right of these drawings, looking at them with a small smile and a hand on their chin, thinking: “What is that trending topic?”. Trending topic refers to a Twitter, or X, function, which is to spotlight tweets of the most commented themes in a region determined by the user. Hyamara, then, turns to the right, ignoring the little squares and closing their eyes, still smiling,
and with a hand waving. They think: “I don’t care to know!”, and from behind them, a yellow light starts glowing, as well as little hearts and flowers, which start floating around them. In the next panel, the style changes a bit, towards something more colorful. Hyamara walks in a grassy meadow, red flowers and trees in the corners of the panel. The blue sky has a huge, yellow sun in the upper right corner. The sun, wearing sunglasses, smiles. Hyamara is skipping, happy, with eyes closed, in the middle of this scene. Behind Hyamara is a rainbow. In a square narration balloon, the following words appear: “Freedom is actually not having a Xitter”, referring to Twitter, or X.
