Hey #kidlit#artshare. Post two versions of the same piece of art, 1) sketch 2) finished art. It’s good to show art directors like me how you handle sketches. It’s good to model for emerging illustrators how detailed a sketch needs to be. Could be a useful thread. 💙❤️

The White Cat, fairy tales translated by Marie Catherine La Mothe, Countess d’Aulnoy in 1698. This version was published in 1847 but unfortunately the illustrator is identified only as “J.W.”

Elaborate, highly detailed black line illustration of an elegant anthropomorphic cat draped in veils and flowing skirts, half reclining in a chair on a palatial porch. She is framed by huge, sculpted pillars depicting human and cat figures. She looks like a queen. Text beneath her reads “The White Cat” in letters formed of white cats themselves.

Out now! The first book in the new Ella and the Frogs junior fiction series written by Cassy Polimeni and illustrated by me is out in the wild! I adored this story, perfect for budding eco-warriors keen to read about frogs, habitat conservation and friendship. #kidlitart#middlegradeillustration

The front cover for ‘Ella and the Amazing Frog Orchestra’, featuring an 8 year old girl outdoors, surrounded by frogs, music notes, pond plants and flowers. The bright pink circle reads: Out now.

Over the weekend, I found a tiny pink plastic shoe on the ground near my office. I placed it at eye level, on a wooden post, by the stairs. This morning, on that same post, was this picture.

A new scene for Rat and Mole in The Wind in the Willows: “The afternoon sun was getting low as Rat sculled gently homewards in a dreamy mood, murmuring poetry-things to himself…” #windinthewillows#kidlitart#kidlit#childrensbookillustration
