Before the presidential election of 1936, The Literary Digest, respected as a polling publication at the time, predicted Alf Landon would defeat FDR 57% to 43%. However, FDR would defeat Landon 61% to 37%. They were off 18 percentage points for FDR and 20 points for Landon. Oops.
