That's exactly right. I had an office a couple of doors from hers at UPenn in 1989. Hugely insightful, never dull, a lot of fun and care.

I wouldn't but then I'm a demographer. Of course, back in the 1970s lots of young white men were worried about the future of the planet and not all of them have kept up with the literature.

French schools are rigorously secular because they eventually had a proper revolution. Basically, till the mid-19th century, it was batshit fundamentalists and slave-owning chancers getting on boats and crossing the Atlantic.
