North Korea tore down a fire station built by South Korea in the Mount Kumgang tourist region at the end of April, Seoul’s unification ministry announced Friday, a move that one expert said will do little to damage inter-Korean relations, which are already at a low point. The unification ministry stated during a regular press briefing that the fire station was one of two in the area built with South Korean financing and condemned Pyongyang for unilaterally dismantling the ROK-owned facility. The destruction of the fire station comes after North Korea abandoned its former policy of pursuing reunification last year, declaring the South a separate enemy state.
