Leica now sells a camera that watermarks digital images at the instant of creation (supposedly robustly) for photojournalism. I assume other companies or the industry as whole will come up with a standard for this.

Hmmmm. So the issue is it's, in part, a machine that can print bullshit fast. But here we have a printed book being sold... wouldn't we have thought that bulk institutional book purchasers had read what they're endorsing? AI has here inadvertently exposed social failure...

I don't disagree but it does feel like everyone is acting like 100% of google results and products on Amazon were flawless one year ago & that's just not the world we've been living in. This is worse, don't get me wrong, I just don't think it's measurably worse.
Internet information revolution is cancelling itself, with the end state being something similar to what was before it (plus an added layer of payments to access stores/sources with verified products/information-after all it is valuable).
