My grandmother was illegally sold to an uncle in 1928 as a slave (age 8) so her mom could go to NYC (PR, so US territory at the time). She was beaten & r*ped until she escaped during a hurricane at age 16. At the time of her death at age 98, she still had lash scars 😞 no charges ever filed.
