With how much i see people crying about heating and power costs in the UK they might want to reopen some of those mines/plants....

Privatisation and an ineffective regulator.

Coal is not cheapest (directly) and the indirect costs are vast.

It doesn't make economic sense. Coal mines can't make money. That's partly why renewables are taking over the market.
