I would contend that authoritarianism is pretty much a hallmark of *any* religion that has a significant hierarchy of authority and power to its practice
As the US general said: Quantity has a quality all of its own. Harms that are too small to care about when a person is the target of one or two instances of it are severe when they are getting hundreds or thousands of instances.
It scales as the *square* of the relative sizes of the groups. It's why you CANNOT treat abuse from large accounts the same as abuse from small ones. A large account or social group *must* be held to tighter standards than small ones because the scale differential amplifies harm quadratically.
