I remember reading an old gaming magazine that divided RPG games into computer RPGs (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale) and console RPGs (Final Fantasy VII, Dragon Quest.

We do actually in terms of classifications. There is generally a need to split western RPG’s (which is what people call stuff like ES, fallout, and Witcher to name a few) with JRPG’s just because the history is so so different.
