I suffer from this affliction.

With the alleged requirement for a religion in fantasy, why not use one that exists? If we can write fantasy in the existing world of today, why couldn't we use religions that exist?

Right. Writing is an escape for me, as I suppose video games are for other, except that I'm not in somebody else's world—and I control what happens. It's just that, sometimes when I write, I get to know the characters so well that I don't want to abandon them (which ending the story feels like).

The fun, for me, is exploring them. I wouldn't want to turn 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 over to an AI. ;)
