I’m pretty sick of “military veteran” being treated as a credential for public office. Getting conned by a military recruiter does not transfer to being good at legislation. It’ll probably help him get elected though 🤷🏻‍♂️

People take a lot of different things from that experience. Extensively citing John Brown in his speeches suggests that he probably took from that experience lessons and values that we want in the halls of power. It very often goes exactly the other way though.

I think it does lend some credibility when a person who is a veteran criticizes the US military and its actions, because they’re coming from a perspective of having experienced it first hand and can speak from that experience to make their criticism more pointed and effective.
