Knitting and jigsaws are two of my standbys. Particularly if you put on something absorbing to listen to or watch while doing them. It absorbs your brain and your hands.

(Have just seen elsewhere in replies that jigsaws probably aren't viable. But the "absorb brain and hands simultaneously" rule seems to work well and applies to various things. Also, there's lots of very nice small jigsaws of works of art these days, I.E. only about 80-150 pieces)
