At this point, I just say thanks for playing, better luck next time and then block them. Ain't nobody got time for that shit.

Weeding and censorship are not the same thing. And if you think they are, that's a you problem, not a me problem.

Y'all, full disclosure. I'm currently going through the second worst depressive episode of my life. To the point where I have to take medical leave. If you try to start shit with me with bullshit accusations that I think burning books is fine, I will just block.

Those two things are not even remotely comparable. Thanks for playing, better luck next time.

If I remember correctly, she was slowly funneling them to charity shops to sell. But no one wanted them so they just kept accumulating.

Now I'm having flashbacks to that news story a few years ago about a woman who couldn't stand for books to be thrown away. So she "saved them" and stored them in a barn. A BARN PEOPLE. Would you like to know what is often not water proof or temperature controlled? A barn.

Weeding isn't something that library workers take lightly and it's not something we do haphazardly. We are trained employees. This is our job. Trust us to do it. Otherwise you have to listen to me rant. And nobody wants that.

My department works on a one in, one out system essentially. For every new book, dvd, cd, etc. that we buy, something has to go. We have parameters and standards that we follow. We have a schedule that we do this on. It is a time consuming process and it is hard work.

Obtained elsewhere - Here's the super cool thing about libraries. We share shit. We share it with our community and with other libraries across the country. If my patrons aren't reading it any longer and I can get it from 52 other libraries, it doesn't need to live on my shelf.

Trivial - Is this one of 5 copies of James Patterson's title from 2022? It can go. Was this a flash in the pan bestseller from 1991 that hasn't circulated in 5 years? It can also go. Irrelevant - Does your community care about/ need this book? Do people want to read about this thing? No? Toss it.
