For the record: I don’t actually believe people who claim being selective about who you interact with for fully rational reasons is somehow a social faux pas. That’s bullshit, even they don’t believe that. This is just about their inability to harass. They know it, we know it. Fuck ‘em.
It's *mostly* about ability to harass, but I think there's also a fair amount of "I don't care if Famous Person ever sees my comment, but I insist that everyone who follows Famous Person sees my comment." Getting mad that they could be prevented from borrowing someone's audience.

Correct. They don’t want to be only in community with each other because the whole thing they are getting out of social media is harassment. Take that away and they might have to go touch grass.
It's not like obligated to say hello to the screaming person who's drunk and/or high on the public bus.
