Just think for a second about how *weird* it is that a news article about a shooting doesn't put "left one person in critical condition" in the lede or even the headline.

If it’s a gas leak explosion or similar then the number of citizens dead or critically wounded is for sure up front. Cop stories seem to be a black hole in which concern for the public is swallowed.
