I think the dual nacelle as a universal constant is interesting because it shows the physics of warp travel are a constant and work the same for everyone. Just as a Chinese plane, or hot balloon, etc, will necessarily share design necessities with a french one because physics laws are what they are.
In James White's Sector General universe, *all* starships have dual hyperdrive motors. No matter which species invented them.
