Thank you! I agree that 'shallow' is a bit shallow. Our main goal was, indeed, as a first step, to put our foot down against the prevailing view that hierarchy is the key. We are aware that we need to elaborate on the framework and are grateful for help from the community!🙏

But many of the examples you give actually accentuate that it is a hierarchy--either because the structure is computing movement across layers/ reference frames, or because the region (like thalamus) is highly modular, so mirrors the hierarchy.
