Loading gauge =/= tunnel diameter. Channel tunnel is max 7.6m diameter, smaller than the standard modern European tunnel, e.g. the Gotthard tunnel is 9.6m, Katzenberg is 9.4m, Saverne is 10m

Sure, but 7.6 m lets you run way faster than 160 km/h normally, it's just a matter of travel paths in mixed traffic.
