Like many things in the UK it's only imagined to be a problem because there's a whole class of people who seem to think the median wage is like £100k a year and therefore objectively very well-paid national elected officials are actually somehow subjected to punishing financial hardship

If you paid me £100k a year for any substantive period of time I am 100% sure I could retire comfortably and not have to worry about my retirement

There's no formulation of "these people deserve more than double/triple the average income" that isn't ultimately grounded in incredible snobbery about the rest of the UK population
