How many times has a version of this blog post been written in the last 30 years. Typically the claim is only sustained by artificially narrowing what counts as Marxist to a silly extent, and this seems no exception?

1) While Cohen eventually became a moralistic egalitarian, he didn't ever become a liberal. 2) This bit is certainly wrong. I know neo-Republican Marxists; neo-Republican Marxists are friends of mine; and they, Senator, are not liberals.

There is also a recent mini-trend of “neo-Republican” Marxists, but they are basically just liberals, who instead of appealing to Rawls’s egalitarianism, instead want to rely on Philip Pettit’s “non-domination” norm (which I take to be just another flavour of liberalism) to reconstruct Marxism.
