Honest question for those of us out of the know... What are these quotas and why exactly are these protests occurring? I've been seeing a lot of mention of the "quotas" but I am lacking the context and significance?
Thank you for sharing about this. I was horrified when I saw an article saying student protesters had been killed there, but it didn't provide any further information.
The students protested the quotas, only to be faced with extreme violence by the government last Thursday, as well as an internet blackout. Scores of students were killed. The courts have since rolled back the quotas, but the protests will continue until demands are met.
