Wait I need the context. Marie Curie had haters?
Yes. Misogynists who didn't think a woman could do science.
Still has them. People who just absolutely refuse to believe she was the one doing all the science by herself. This even showed up in Big Bang Theory not that long ago. Sheldon said something about Curie "having her husband to help her.". WAY too many scientists think this way!

“If the rabble continues to occupy itself with you, then simply don’t read that hogwash, but rather leave it to the reptile for whom it has been fabricated.”
she did, unfortunately. or at least scandal-mongers coming for her in the french press (heh) at the time over an affair that had come to light. there’s a good explanation here: bsky.app/profile/mika...
When I was researching Madame Curie for a class I was teaching, I learned about the “scandal” of her having an affair with a younger colleague. The legendary acceptance of affairs by the French was apparently just as sexist as every other culture’s.
Of course she did
Yeah. In 1910, she started dating fellow physicist Paul Langevin. Curie was widowed, but Langevin was still trying to get divorced, so when the right-wing press heard about it in 1911 they made it into a whole scandal: she was having an affair with a married man!
