harris running explicitly as the prosecutor and “the cop” — with the genial Friday Night Lights coach as her running mate — is exactly the kind of affective moderation that really does appeal to voters

You’ve got a lot of people unable/unwilling to zoom out from permanent internecine war for three seconds to view the world, however briefly, from the perspective of a normal person.

The idea that constant factional infighting is electorally beneficial for the party is insane to me and not at all supported by the evidence that perceived moderation is electorally beneficial.

It's all people who think Bill Clinton's reelection was the gold standard for any future campaign because he got the FOP endorsement.

The guys who think solving poverty and wealth inequality is tiny shit like "$50 in a bank account at birth" can't seem to understand that you can appeal to moderates without actually gunning down a leftist on fifth avenue.

My bro & sis-in-law would be old-school Republicans if the party hadn't gone nuts. They *panicked* about Biden's debate, and in the family text thread also panicked about Harris ascending. A month later, they're chill. Seem happy to be voting for her + Walz.

Amen. Part of the problem is that people who have to right anthropology articles to describe what Middle America thinks do not understand what Middle America thinks of as being a "moderate." A line from the start of Breaking Away summarizes it: "He was as normal as pumpkin pie." Quad Cities 4eva.

There is also an element of Dems & other non-Trumpers deciding the stakes of this election are so high that we need to focus on winning with Harris/Walz rather than attacking each other. Thus, less infighting. Another cycle I’d be fighting over Gaza and fracking. But for ‘24 it’s Harris or bust 4 me

Doesn't have to be policy, just vibes.
