i think it was david frum who observed that the generation of americans who came of age in the 2000s will be voting against george w. bush for the rest of their lives. which, in my case, is true!
In my case I’m voting against Reagan for all my life (I’m 67).
It does feel like ever since whenever I’m on the less popular side of a political issue ever since I’ve been telling people “I was right about the invasion of Iraq and I’m right about this.”
My first election was Bush v Gore, which has absolutely shaped my approach to voting. And my impatience with third party candidates at the national level.
This is true for me too, but demographically I was probably going to be a liberal Democrat no matter what, so I don’t know that I’m great evidence for the Frum theory
My first criteria in every Congressional or Presidential primary is "Did you support invading Iraq or the USA PATRIOT Act?"
I get it. I'm still voting against Reagan.
Hm, that implies that the 45-64 cohort is voting against the Clintons, which I suppose I get?
Really curious what the context was for that observation? From him, of all people?
I wonder what it did to the generation whose first election was losing with George McGovern.
