watching a showtime documentary on the supreme court (it’s fine) and it occurred to me that the choice in november is between someone who represents a legacy of Brown and someone who embodies the opposition to it. you can vote for the america of thurgood marshall or that of orval faubus.
We were talking about this at the Statue of Liberty. There's a long and robust national ethos the right plans to blow to smithereens. But the thing they're planning to replace it with didn't get traction for a REASON. It's boring. It's uninspiring. It sucks. It's full of cruelty and murder.
The Supreme Court is not “fine” Jamelle it is TERRIBLE and this is exactly how you have been corrupted by the New York Times which you must now leave upon demand by more enlightened persons
orval fabus sounds like the name of one of the organizers of the hunger games
I assume by “it’s fine” you mean the documentary and not the Court.
many of the contrasts between who they are and what they represent really are stark! (some could stand to be starker ofc but the point remains) bsky.app/profile/audr...
The sad thing is that someone like Charlie Kirk could have posted the exact same thing
And whenever I hear the name Faubus, I think of this tune by Charlie Mingus… m.youtube.com/watch?v=02bk...

“Name me someone who's ridiculous, Dannie. / Governor Faubus!” - Charles Mingus
I dunno, very confident people have been loudly telling me for years not to let SCOTUS fears influence my vote. should a realistic understanding of practical politics really matter more than the opinions of people who can’t see past the current election?
