the reason why people think ongoing diversity at elite institutions is evidence of illegal behavior is because they believe that there is no way a black person could gain entry into an elite institution on their own merit. that's it.

There are perfectly legal explanations for why schools’ demographics might not change after the fall of affirmative action.

Of course, they really know absolutely they could and do gain entry on their own merit, but that would give them that feeling in the pit of their stomach, knowing that their skin does not make them superior, and they’ve been wrong their whole lives….

Meaningful diversity is its own value. Really did learn more from other students and people unlike me both in college and elsewhere than did formal instruction. Or arguable anyhow. Admittedly ephemeral but meritocracy is mostly bullshit anyhow.

I think you’re giving elite universities too much slack here. Why aren’t they hiring more black engineers, physicists, biochemists, etc? Why is it so heavy with social sciences and focused on supposed “race” conscious topics? Those other scholars I mentioned exist! Hire more of them.

Unlike some of us, who have worked and gone to school with very smart black (and other) folks and respected them.

It doesn’t help that the metrics are so far from objective
