two takeaways from this for me are a) the older voters in the group have absolutely rotten information environments and b) if harris has persuaded two of nine trump supporters to back her in november that's pretty good.
The participants discuss how Kamala Harris’s entry into the race changed — or didn’t change — their thinking about the election.
That’s an understatement. Flipping 2/9 is a double digit swing
It’s good, but 2 of 9 Biden voters have decided that Trump will make prices go down.
Both of those, plus, wow, the misogyny coming from women and the racism.
My understanding is that Trump basically needed to keep his true fans and persuade some swing voters. At the risk of counting my chickens early, Harris peeling off a minority of Trump voters is a very good sign.
re: "older voters hav[ing] rotten information environments": these are the only demographic which is still regularly getting their news from TV and radio, so I take this as a real indictment of legacy media institutions.
I wonder if beyond the fact that these polling samples are wildly unrepresentative of an electorate, all the rotten info enviros have created the most unique (derogatory) voter landscape. Folks who choose their own truths end up with some wild voter profiles, and they’re the ones answering polls
Regarding your point B, I simply cannot reconcile how close the polling is with where all the anecdotal evidence like this seems to be pointing. Everything points to either polling that is way off in Trump’s favor OR my information bubble being extremely lopsided.
Rotten information environments help people hide their true prejudices. The Facebook feeds of these voters will tell you what they actually believe.
Obviously under-polled but likely important demographic in this election: women married to stupid, controlling men: bsky.app/profile/texa...
