If Harris wins the election, the same folks will say that this was a very strategic move. If Harris loses the election, the same folks will say that she blundered by skipping the dinner (among many other things).

Growing up Catholic, I think I can safely say that the Al Smith dinner had exactly zero influence on how anyone in my family voted, and that’s assuming they had even heard of the event at all.
