I am also a nerd who likes to do his own reading and research, and come up with my own suggestions, so I need a doctor/psych who is open to listening to their patient and taking their suggestions on-board. It doesn't even matter if they disagree with me, as long as they listen and take me seriously.

Preach this. I think all medical professionals should get CME credits and proper certificates for doing at least basic counseling theories, regardless of specialties practiced. I want medical professionals that can listen like a counselor, see the concerns and subtext and help me be and get better.
