#birdtober day 1: Jay Did you know that, thanks to jays, oak trees seem to have effectively spread to entire continents after the Ice Age? The jays are still doing the same job, spreading oaks to new places. Illustration for the book Korvaamattomat (The Irreplaceables), written by Juha Kauppinen
Another #birdtober challenge by Birdtober club: European pied flycatcher. I just drew it for a book on pollinators (writer Mia Rönkä). You can help this little fellow by sustaining a diverse garden. A diverse garden supports both bird and insect diversity, also securing pollination.
#birdtober@koneensaatio.bsky.social. Many birds feed on insects directly or benefit from insects pollinating the birds' or their prey species' food plants.
It looks magnificient!
Thank you, Aleksya 💚
Hi all Brazilians and everyone else, here's an illustration of Araucaria angustifolia, which we don't have in Finland. Two years ago I learned that it's a keystone species on which many species depend. Hopefully this critically endangered beauty will continue to enrich South American nature! #SciArt
