Make art for your nr 1 audience that is always present: yourself. A nursing thought I’ve learned to repeat lately: teen me would fucking LOVE what current me is doing. That’s healing. 💕

I have found myself taking on editorial and publishing work again and then realizing I haven’t actually updated my portfolio since like… before the pandemic… but the idea of also overhauling my portfolio is overwhelming me lol

I have fallen into a cadence of writing a bit about my art (or art in general) every week, and I’m really enjoying it! This week’s letter is about taking some direction from my five year old, and her extremely good advice. Now to put it into practice 😄

Putting into practice 5 minute “starts” to block out color though couldn’t help myself and took a color pencil to them too 😂

Immensely helpful advice for constructing a painting, out of Oil Paintings with Light and Color by Kevin D. Macpherson. Applies to any and all mediums, imho (though may need modifying for watercolor), but basics of construction are so solid.
