When I was in grad school, I went to see a band - friends of my girlfriend at the time. We hung out, they were great, I bought their record. It was their only record and there's barely any trace of the band - but I still listen to that EP, have included one of its songs on mixes. (4/n)

Art matters to people in a deeply personal way, that doesn't cohere to market logics and isn't possible to measure against the metrics of software scale. Almost none of that software will exist in a decade, but a 1/100 poetry chapbook published this year will change a teen's life in a century. (5/n)
