Before I got into tech, I worked a lot of retail service jobs, waited tables, etc. so I'm always very respectful to public-facing positions exactly like that. But also never forget, many times the cashier's first choice, is NOT to have to satisfy small talk, over and over again, all day long.
Yeah, don’t be inane and vacuous. After 15 years going to the same stores each week you get to recognizing people’s faces and outward personalities enough to know who genuinely enjoys the interaction and who would rather you pick another lane.
