It's so inexplicably jarring to have this Edsel column side-by-side with the Political Desk's nitpicking "fact checks" and laundering of Trump's speeches.
The Timothy Snyder quote that is absolutely correct on all points.
It is very clear that a second Trump term would be disastrous, so I am not really helped by explanations of how this would be so. What I have been looking for, is a clear laying out of the ways that he could claim the Presidency in the face of an electoral defeat on November 5th.
I won't read this column because I got plenty of sleep last night, and don't need more, but Edsall is very much a Part of The Problem. He doesn't get nearly enough of the blame, perhaps because not enough people read him. But he's a sleeper hack. Literally.
