The question now is - how fast can I write an article for a top-flight journal?

Feel excited about my research in a way that I haven’t felt in a couple years. Like my idea may actually be original and worth exploring. Reminds me of the days I used to stay up till after midnight click-clacking away during my PhD. Gotta bottle this up for the wet winter days and long nights.

Success of mixed ed. at Queen's Colleges: 'I am apt to think...in a community like that of Ireland is of an importance which *can scarcely be overrated*, and makes support given to our University resemble the money expended on harbours, roads, and public works for the prosperity of the nation.'🗃️

Oct 1857: The Lord Lieutenant praised Queen's graduates who were heading off to India, imploring them to take 'conspicuous' part in 'restoring upon a firmer, a purer, a nobler basis than it ever yet rested on - the hold of civilised and Christian England upon the regained millions of India'. 🗃️

Quoted text, in part: "I fervently hope that among the honourable and enduring successes of the Queen's Colleges in Ireland, it may come to be recorded of them that the young men whom they will have trained for the business of active life, have borne a conspicuous and distinguished part in the Imperial task which now devolves on us as a people, of restoring upon a firmer, a purer, a nobler basis than it ever yet rested on - the hold of civilised and Christian England the regained millions of India (applause).'

In another life, I could see Phil Foden as the lead singer of a very self-reverential emo band.

After a stimulating workshop at Aberdeen on Irish Political Thought yesterday, it was a wonderful coincidence to get to see the John Lavery exhibition in Edinburgh. Learned a lot and really enjoyed just basking in some of these paintings.
