As someone who wrote a book, a few journal articles, and a bunch of blog posts on democratic breakdown before shifting my focus several years ago to U.S. protest activity, I'll say: this is very good, and I hope lots of people read it.

Opinion | A Trump dictatorship is increasingly inevitable. We should stop pretending.

There is a clear path to dictatorship in the United States, and it is getting shorter every day. So why is everyone behaving like normal?

8 USC 1481, Section 7, Part B - Trump will be stripped of his natural born citizenship. That ties in with Title 18 USC, Section 2383, 2384 and 2385. His supporters should be worried about 2385, that applies to them.

The article gets a ton of history wrong, primarily through the implication that the German people voted Hitler into power. He got 33% of the vote, about the same amount as Trump’s hardcore support. In both cases an elite with no popular support enables the dictatorship.

My one objection is this: > The voters could have elected Hillary Clinton, but they didn’t. But they did! It's the electoral system that didn't vote in Hillary Clinton!

when your path away from dictatorships is down to 'does 50 years of eating mcdonalds kick in before the election' its not a great situation particularly since half the GOP field are also strongman dictator wannabes as well

Here’s the plan for Trmp’s second term from Jonathan Karl (plus.thebulwark.com/p/theres-a-s...) based upon his interviews with Republicans: Acting appointments everywhere Trmp loyalists replacing career civil servants Pardons for all Trmp's never-ending retribution

It's not about who the young active duty members will take their direction from - it's about who the Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, forged in combat, will be taking their direction from - both the leaders still in the military, now sergeant majors, battalion commanders, and generals - and the vets.

It's good, though I strongly disagree with him once he gets to his military analysis. I think Trump-as-Dictator would absolutely pull Mattis out of retirement, and then we would at the very least get a fun civil war on our hands.
