Far too much loose talk about the word "genocide." If you aren't trained in this area, you shouldn't be throwing it around lightly. It cheapens. Debases. Trivializes.
Israel is committing genocide.
Sure, okay. What, specifically, would you say is a bad use of the term, versus a good use of it?
Indiscriminately killing 40,000 of a 600,000 population, annexing their land, denying humanitarian relief are all inambiguous examples of genocide, regardless of one’s formal “training”. The Israelis are absolutely and unequivocally committing genocide on the Palestinian people.
"If you aren't trained in this area, you shouldn't be throwing it around lightly. It cheapens. Debases. Trivializes." Indeed. But I've been wondering more and more if that is the exact reason people are doing that--it's a deliberate attempt to do what you described.
brave man. RIP your mentions.
There's a lot of shills these days posting misinformation not sure why they are doing it though and this app is full of that crap.
What are my credentials? Glad you asked! My PhD is on the history of Americans collaborating with Nazi Germany. Historical training (at least in the US) is often not well suited for topics that range multiple geographic areas. Usually areas of expertise are divided into US, Europe, etc.
If you are asking people to believe experts on genocide what they think of this situation and what we should call it, then I totally agree!
