It's even worse if you consider Nobel prize share. 4/5 the women who got the prize got a quarter share: the smallest share given by the committee. Only the most recent woman got more: a third share

The paper sits at 5213 citations, growing at a rate of 200-300/yr. The paper is Minkowski's mu->e gamma paper, which is really about neutrinos It's also interesting that even after SK got 5σ for oscillations in '98, people didn't remember this paper for a few years inspirehep.net/literature/4...

I like "sleeping giant" papers. Imagine writing a paper that after 26 years amassed 17 citations (4 of them self citations). Yes, this was some decades ago the citation rate was generally lower then, but still, the expected number of total citations of the paper has got to be low...

Even when I agree with the outcome, I am always uneasy with the consolidation of power within a small number of people in our field

2 it immediately turns them into huge influencers at the international stage. They often immediately get important roles in government or large institutes with little oversight. Or the influence governments on funding of science, often outside the work for their prize...

I should also follow up with something you said earlier that I really think is important. Consolidating public perception to just a few people a year is bad. Two reasons I think: 1 perception that physics (even theory, e.g. EWSB) is about sitting in a closet by yourself doing ground breaking work...

Yeah, but you had said that there's a regulation that people on a team cannot be awarded the prize, but people on teams have been awarded the prize. Just not everyone on the team. But it has been mostly neutrino experiments that got these lol

Haha yeah. Also within hep, lattice is theory (of course) but they publish like experimentalists with lots of conference proceedings and weird collaboration authorship rules.

Yep, I've tweeted regularly on the gender problems (and updated the wikipedia page to highlight the issue) and the fact that the committee is clearly self serving. Can you point me to the regulation you mentioned though?
