If Harris takes TX the philandering orange SOB is toast. I don't know about GA, but I'm seeing more Harris signs than I saw Biden signs in 2020.

This graph is astonishing. The people that bang on about “natural birth” and “women have been doing this forever without help” need to be forced to stare at this until their eyes water.

Graph of maternal mortality rate against year for the UK. Rate bounces until and down around 500 deaths per 100,000 births until about 1940, when it falls sharply. It’s been very low (~1–3 per 100,000) ever since.

Count 'n' Nancy?

A picture of Count von Count from Sesame Street, and another of Nancy Reagan, First Lady of the US, 1981–1988.

Partly caused by excess inflation in the book market. In '72, a paperback book cost 95 cents. Today, it's maybe 10 or 15 bucks.

A regular n-gon would give you a "wedge" of 2π/n; each wedge has area ½·(2π/n). So the total area would be n times that. So if 2π/n is one of those angles whose sine is a "nice" value, your total area would be similarly nice.

Well, I would, but I would have to be a Bachelor of Puppets first, and my wife would disapprove of my becoming a bachelor. Heck, I don't even Associate with Puppets.

The mean height of an adult male, US, is about 5'9", with a standard deviation of about 2.8". This means that slightly more than 85% of adult men in the US are less than 6' high. (I know; but I regularly teach statistics.)

I mentioned visibility to my son as we went through a lot; some trucks come to my shoulders (I am over 6'). He's taken to walking through parking lots with his hand raised high for visibility. He waves to the drivers, they wave back, not realizing he's just trying not to die. Smart kid!

If Spellcheck doesn't catch it, then it is clearly a bug!

My go-to example used to be the price of sending a piece of first-class mail; it was <varied> cents for weights up to one ounce; then <varied> plus <increment> cents for weights above one ounce but less than two. Then another <increment> cents for letters up to (in those days) 16 oz.
